Nice Is Out, Power Is In—Let’s Talk About It

“Is being too nice bringing you down?” This is the burning question that is up for
debate. Women have always been told to do good and be good, but maybe we’ve
taken it too far? Let’s talk about how the new norm is festering into the working
world and killing the spirit of success.

We’ve all heard the generic rules of composure—be polite, always be positive,
and the old classic, avoid conflicts altogether. Sounds like a dream but let’s be
real, we aren’t living in a world of Barney and friends. It’s 2025 and we’ve got to
do what we’ve got to do to stay ahead in the name of success. With that being
said, there is an undeniable pattern of women feeling guilted into believing that
speaking up for themselves is simply not a nice thing to do. And with that, the “Be
nice” culture gains another point while the average woman loses dismally.
Acceptable? Not anymore!

The struggle most women have is believing that being nice is naturally connected
to being kind, but there is a fine and definite line that lies between the two. Being
kind should be ingrained into who you are, but being too nice can be considered a
weakness. Ever think of the people-pleasing phase? Or the perception that
women are too soft and won’t make the best leaders? These stem from the “Be
nice” culture that is growing at a rapid and alarming rate. It’s time to say goodbye
to nice and give a hearty welcome to the era of powerful women. So, if you need
to fire someone, address inappropriate behaviour, or stand headstrong for an
opinion you truly believe in, do it unapologetically. Sometimes, exiting your
comfort zone is just what you need to realize your full potential. Being kind but
bold will be your greatest power move this season. Keep your heels and standards
high, and level up boss babe!

Remember, being too nice doesn’t only slow you down at the workplace, but in
your everyday life, too. Don’t feel guilted into saying yes to a night out when all
you really crave is to be in bed with glass of wine. Don’t feel afraid to shut the
door on toxic relationships, or for putting up healthy boundaries for the energy
drainers that come closing in on you. Put yourself first and never forget—the only
person you should be pleasing is YOU!
